Do you often feel rushed, disorganized, and restless?Would you like to focus on one issue at a time, giving it the attention it deserves, but find it hard to detach from thoughts and commitments? I understand how you feel, and believe me, many people experience this sensation, often accepting it as an unchangeable part of life.
I have good news for you! You don't have to live in this state, and through small but consistent remedies, you can significantly reduce its effects.
The discomfort you feel is caused by an energetic imbalance between the body and the mind. What does this mean? The body and the mind (understood as the brain) are interconnected through nerves that link the brain to muscles, internal organs, the skin, and more. These connections activate functions like movement and inform the brain about the physical space we inhabit—our body. Depending on the quality and quantity of information received from the body, we feel more or less grounded and secure. This function is called interoception and is a fundamental aspect of our well-being.
Interoception allows us to feel ourselves through the body. Although it may seem trivial, the effects of these sensations completely change our mood and inner balance. Without good interoception, we feel unbounded, insecure, and lack a solid "sense of self," becoming identified with problems, anxieties, and goals.
Personal and social issues, commitments, work, worries, or sometimes even overly high and rigid expectations tend to draw our energy into the brain, "absorbing it from the body." This is normal; the brain is equipped to plan, organize, and solve multiple problems simultaneously. However, to do so, it focuses on the external environment, withdrawing energy from the body and ceasing to listen to interoceptive signals.
As a result, we may find ourselves living in a mental theater where we struggle and strive to solve problems, forgetting that life is happening in the present. Returning to the present would greatly benefit our physical, mental, and emotional health.
At this point, you might wonder what you can do immediately to reverse this trend and reconnect with your body, to feel "in your place" again.
There are several things you can do: spend time in nature, frequently engage with water—swimming pools, the sea, or even enjoyable showers help you feel the boundaries of your skin through water contact; practice meditation or breathing exercises, yoga, or any other activity that moves the body independently of the mind.
Among these, massage—both relaxing and therapeutic—is particularly recommended. The primary goal of massage is to rebalance the energy between the mind and body, resensitize tissues, release tensions, and reactivate fluid circulation. During a massage, there's a significant increase in interoception, which is the main cause of the well-being felt immediately afterward and in the following hours. A good massage every 10 to 15 days promotes the rebalancing of energy between the brain and body, gradually transforming our perceptions and, consequently, the quality of our life.
In short, over time, you may have drifted away from where you should be, and if pain, stress, and discomfort are becoming more pressing, it might be time to return to your place!
